Este a șasea zi în țările care adoptă o convenție duminică-prima, ca în tradiția abrahamică. În alte țări, vineri este prima zi a weekend-ului, sâmbătă a doua. În Afganistan și Iran, vineri este ultima zi a weekend-ului, sâmbăta fiind prima zi a săptămânii de lucru. Bahrain, Emiratele Arabe Unite și Kuweit au urmat și această convenție până când s-au schimbat într-un weekend de vineri-sâmbătă, la 1 septembrie 2006 în Bahrain și Emiratele Arabe Unite și un an mai târziu în Kuweit. În Iran, vineri este singura zi de weekend.

Friday is the day after Thursday which precedes Saturday. In countries adopting Monday-first conventions as recommended by the international standard ISO 8601, it is the fifth day of the week. It is the sixth day in countries that adopt a Sunday-first convention, as in the Abrahamic tradition. In other countries, Friday is the first day of the weekend, with Saturday the second. In Afghanistan and Iran, Friday is the last day of the weekend, with Saturday as the first day of the working week. Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait also followed this convention until they changed to a Friday–Saturday weekend, on 1 September 2006 in Bahrain and UAE, and a year later in Kuwait. In Iran, Friday is the only weekend day.
