Un habitat este o zonă ecologică sau de mediu care este locuită de o anumită specie de animale, plante sau alt tip de organism. Este mediul natural în care trăiește un organism sau mediul fizic care înconjoară o populație de specii. Un habitat este format din factori fizici, cum ar fi solul, umiditatea, intervalul de temperatură și disponibilitatea luminii, precum și factorii biotici, cum ar fi disponibilitatea hranei și prezența prădătorilor. Un habitat nu este neapărat o zonă geografică - pentru un organism parazit este corpul gazdei sale sau chiar o celulă din corpul gazdei.
