Umanism
Umanismul este o poziție filosofică și etică care subliniază valoarea și agitația ființelor umane, individual și colectiv, și preferă, în general, gândirea critică și dovezile asupra doctrinei sau a credinței stabilite. Semnificația termenului umanism a fluctuat, în funcție de mișcările intelectuale succesive care s-au identificat cu acesta. În general, însă, umanismul se referă la o perspectivă care afirmă o noțiune de "natură umană". În timpurile moderne, mișcările umaniste sunt în general aliniate la secularism și la religiile non-teiste. Din punct de vedere istoric, acest lucru nu a fost întotdeauna cazul.

Prima definiție a umanismului în dicționar este negarea oricărei valori de putere sau morale superioare celei umane; respingerea religiei în favoarea credinței în avansarea omenirii prin propriile sale eforturi. O altă definiție a umanismului este o poziție filosofică care subliniază autonomia rațiunii umane în contradicție cu autoritatea Bisericii. Umanismul este, de asemenea, o mișcare culturală a Renașterii, bazată pe studii clasice.
