Sistemul judiciar este sistemul instanțelor care interpretează și aplică legea în numele statului. De asemenea, sistemul judiciar oferă un mecanism de soluționare a litigiilor. În conformitate cu doctrina separării puterilor, sistemul judiciar, în general, nu creează legea sau nu aplică legea, ci interpretează legea și o aplică la faptele fiecărui caz. Această ramură a statului este adesea însărcinată să asigure o justiție egală în temeiul legii.
