Prima definiție a cârligului în dicționar este o bucată mică de pânză, cum ar fi una ruptă dintr-o îmbrăcăminte aruncată, sau o bucată de pânză colectivă. O altă definiție a ragului este o piesă fragmentară din orice material; resturi; rupe în bucăți. Rag este, de asemenea, un ziar sau alt jurnal, mai ales unul considerat drept lipsit de valoare, senzațional etc.

But she taught me as I walked her to the subway that life is about not where you start, but where you're going. That's family values.
I keep a lucky red rag in my pocket when I bat, which has been a good luck charm for a few years.
