Reforma

Reforma înseamnă îmbunătățirea sau modificarea a ceea ce este greșit, corupt, nesatisfăcător etc. Utilizarea cuvântului în acest fel apare la sfârșitul anilor 1700 și se crede că provine din mișcarea de asociere a lui Christopher Wyvill, care a identificat drept "obiectivul principal al reformei parlamentare" . Reforma este în general distinctă de revoluție. Aceasta din urmă înseamnă schimbare de bază sau radicală; întrucât reforma nu poate fi mai mult decât o reglare fină sau, cel mult, să remedieze greșelile grave fără a altera fundamentele sistemului. Reforma încearcă să îmbunătățească sistemul în starea sa actuală, să nu îl răstoarne niciodată. Radicalii, pe de altă parte, încearcă să îmbunătățească sistemul, dar încearcă să răstoarne dacă este guvernul sau un grup de oameni înșiși.
