Şerlac
Shellac este o rășină secretată de bug-ul lacului feminin, pe copaci din pădurile din India și Thailanda. Este procesat și vândut sub formă de fulgi uscați, care sunt dizolvați în etanol pentru a face șelac lichid, care este folosit ca un colorant cu perie, glazură și finisaj de lemn. Shellac funcționează ca un grund natural dur, șlefuitor de șlefuire, blocant de tanin, blocant de miros, pete și lac de înaltă luciu. Shellac a fost folosit o dată în aplicații electrice, deoarece posedă calități bune de izolare și asigură etanșarea umezelii. Înregistrările fonografice au fost de asemenea realizate din ea în timpul perioadei de înregistrare de 78 de rpm, care sa încheiat în vest în anii 1950. Din momentul în care a înlocuit finisajele de ulei și ceară în secolul al XIX-lea, șelacul a fost unul dintre finisajele dominante de lemn din lumea occidentală până când a fost în mare parte înlocuit cu lac de nitroceluloză în anii 1920 și 1930.
