4. (Rar) Felie, bucată tăiată. Origine incertă. Pare a fi vorba de
lat. cŭtem „piele” (Pușcariu,
Conv. lit., XXXIX, 61-3; Pușcariu 469; Lausberg 42;
cf. părerea contrară la Domaschke 88),
cf. sard. kude, sicil. kuti, piem. ku. Semantismul este dificil; poate trebuie explicat prin contaminarea cu
gr. ϰότις „crestătură, incizie”. Cealaltă explicație, bazată pe
bg. skut „margine, tiv” (Skok 67) nu este mai convingătoare. DAR propune
bg. kutta, pe care nu îl cunoaștem, și care ar putea proveni din
rom., dacă este cuvînt atît de rar cum pare. –
Der. cuta, vb. (a îndoi, a face cute).
