The hyperpigmentation or the Chloasma or Melasma generally means in the medicine an excessively strong intercalation of melanin into the skin. Affected may be parts of the skin or the entire skin area. Hyperpigmentation belongs to the secondary phenomena occurring in skin diseases. In the case of the causes, a distinction must be made as to whether the disease pattern is produced by endogenous pigments, or exogenous pigments, which are thus produced from the outside. The endogenous pigments include the melanin itself, the hemosiderin, various bile pigments or also carotene. A typical example of an exogenous pigment is carbon, which is contained in many tattooing paints. A deeper definition of hyperpigmentation is the browning of the skin caused by activation of the melanocytes. These are mainly activated by sunlight, but also by various enzymes such as prostaglandins or interleukin-1 in the context of local inflammation. This form of hyperpigmentation is also referred to as postinflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Die Hyperpigmentierung oder das Chloasma oder Melasma bezeichnet in der Medizin allgemein eine übermäßig starke Einlagerung von Melanin in die Haut. Betroffen sein können Teile der Haut oder die gesamte Hautfläche. Die Hyperpigmentierung gehört zu den sekundär bei Hautkrankheiten auftretenden Erscheinungen. Bei den Ursachen ist zu unterscheiden, ob das Krankheitsbild durch endogene, also im eigenen Organismus gebildete, oder exogene, also von außen zugeführte, Pigmente entsteht. Zu den endogenen Pigmenten zählen das Melanin selbst, das Hämosiderin, verschiedene Gallenfarbstoffe oder auch Karotin. Ein typisches Beispiel für ein exogenes Pigment ist Kohlenstoff, der in vielen Tätowierfarben enthalten ist. Eine engere Definition der Hyperpigmentierung ist die durch Aktivierung der Melanozyten bedingte Braunfärbung der Haut. Diese werden hauptsächlich durch das Sonnenlicht aktiviert, aber auch durch verschiedene Enzyme wie Prostaglandine oder Interleukin-1 im Rahmen von lokalen Entzündungen. Diese Form der Hyperpigmentierung wird auch als postinflammatorische Hyperpigmentierung bezeichnet.
