A rondel is a poem with a fixed form, built on two rhymes and including a refrain, like the rondeau and triolet. It is composed most often of thirteen octosyllabic verses distributed in three stanzas. The refrain of the rondel is composed of its first two verses, which are found at the end of the second verse, then its first verse, which is found at the end of the third. Its structure may however include variants: the final refrain sometimes consists of the first two lines; the stanzas sometimes have a verse more or less; some roundels are in decasyllabic worms; there are also double rondelles formed by four quatrains. The rondel, whose origin is French, was in vogue between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries before being taken up by some poets, in France and other European countries, towards the end of the nineteenth century. One of the best known circles in the history of French poetry is The Spring of Charles of Orleans: Time has left his coat Of wind, cold and rain, And has vestu of brouderie, Sun leant, cler and beautiful.

Un rondel est un poème à forme fixe, construit sur deux rimes et comportant un refrain, à l'instar du rondeau et du triolet. Il est composé le plus souvent de treize vers octosyllabiques répartis en trois strophes. Le refrain du rondel est formé de ses deux premiers vers, que l'on retrouve à la fin de la deuxième strophe, puis de son premier vers, que l'on retrouve à la fin de la troisième. Sa structure peut toutefois comporter des variantes : le refrain final se compose parfois des deux premiers vers ; les strophes comptent parfois un vers de plus ou de moins ; certains rondels sont en vers décasyllabiques ; on trouve aussi des rondels doubles formés de quatre quatrains. Le rondel, dont l'origine est française, a été en vogue entre les XIVe et XVIe siècles avant d'être repris par quelques poètes, en France et dans d'autres pays européens, vers la fin du XIXe siècle. L'un des rondels les plus connus dans l'histoire de la poésie française est Le Printemps de Charles d'Orléans : Le temps a laissié son manteau De vent, de froidure et de pluye, Et s’est vestu de brouderie, De soleil luyant, cler et beau.
