adăpá (adáp, adăpát), vb.1. A da apă de băut unui animal. – 2. A îmbiba, a impregna. 3. (Înv.) A da, a administra (un medicament). 4. (Înv.) A otrăvi. – Mr. adep, megl. dap, istr. adŏpu. < Lat. ădaquāre (Pușcariu 20; REW 147; DAR); cf. it. adacquare (salent. dakware, bar. adakwe), prov. azaigar, v. fr. aever (fr. din Vest aiguer, cf. Gamillscheg 20). Sensul 4, astăzi rar, se bazează pe confuzia între „băutură” și „otravă”, cf. fr. poison (‹ potionem). Der. adăpat, s. n. (acțiunea de a adăpa); adăpătoare, s. f. (loc de adăpat); adăpător, adj. (care adapă); adăpătură, s. f. (înv., otrăvire).
