Constitución
Una constitución es un conjunto de principios fundamentales o precedentes establecidos según los cuales se gobierna un estado u otra organización. Estas reglas en conjunto constituyen, es decir, constituyen lo que la entidad es. Cuando estos principios se escriben en un solo documento o conjunto de documentos legales, se puede decir que esos documentos incluyen una constitución escrita; Si están escritos en un único documento comprensivo, se dice que encarnan una constitución codificada. Las constituciones se refieren a diferentes niveles de organizaciones, desde estados soberanos hasta empresas y asociaciones no incorporadas. Un tratado que establece una organización internacional es también su constitución, en que definirá cómo se constituye esa organización. Dentro de los estados, una constitución define los principios sobre los cuales se basa el Estado, el procedimiento en el cual las leyes son hechas y por quién. Algunas constituciones, especialmente constituciones codificadas, también actúan como limitadores del poder estatal, al establecer líneas que los gobernantes de un estado no pueden cruzar, como los derechos fundamentales. Un ejemplo es la constitución de los Estados Unidos de América.
