Macao
Macao, également orthographié Macao, est l'une des deux régions administratives spéciales de la République populaire de Chine, l'autre étant Hong Kong. Macao se trouve sur le côté ouest du delta de la rivière des Perles en face de Hong Kong à l'est, soit environ 64 kilomètres, bordé par la province du Guangdong au nord et face à la mer de Chine méridionale à l'est et au sud. L'économie du territoire dépend fortement du jeu et du tourisme, mais comprend également la fabrication. Le peuple cantonais de Hong Kong et du Guangdong, en particulier le tourisme régional récemment en provenance des régions de langue mandarine, a considérablement stimulé l'économie de Macao. Ancienne colonie portugaise, Macao a été administrée par le Portugal à partir du milieu du 16ème siècle jusqu'à la fin de 1999, alors qu'elle était la dernière colonie européenne en Asie. Les commerçants portugais se sont installés pour la première fois à Macao dans les années 1550. En 1557, Macao a été loué au Portugal par l'empire chinois comme un port commercial. Les Portugais ont administré la ville sous l'autorité et la souveraineté chinoises jusqu'en 1887, lorsque Macao est devenue une colonie de l'empire portugais. La souveraineté sur Macao a été transférée en Chine le 20 décembre 1999.
