Un tribunal au sens général est toute personne ou institution habilitée à juger, juger ou déterminer des réclamations ou des différends - que ce soit ou non un tribunal dans son titre. Par exemple, un avocat comparaissant devant un tribunal sur lequel un juge unique était saisi pourrait décrire ce juge comme «son tribunal».
