Reiki - le mot vient du lingqi chinois 灵气. Ce terme signifie "influence spirituelle". À l'heure actuelle, le concept de reiki est connu par le créateur de la méthode de pseudo-traitement, qui s'appelle Usui-reiki-ryōhō. C'est une méthode d'énergie vivante basée sur le système. "Usui" est le nom du créateur de cette méthode, Mikao Usui. Le mot rei 霊 signifie «esprit» ou «âme» en japonais, alors que ki est un terme beaucoup plus large. Cela peut signifier «esprit», «âme», «cœur comme sentiment», «esprit», «humeur», «énergie». Dans le mot reiki est équivalent au qi chinois ou énergie vitale pénétrant l'univers. L'existence de l'énergie spirituelle du reiki - comme l'existence d'autres formes d'énergie vitale - n'a pas encore été confirmée par les observations scientifiques. Reiki – słowo pochodzi od chińskiego lingqi 灵气. Pojęcie to oznacza „duchowy wpływ”. Obecnie, pojęcie reiki jest znane dzięki twórcy metody pseudo-leczenia, która nazywa się Usui-reiki-ryōhō. Jest to system-metoda leczenia za pomocą energii życiowej. „Usui” to nazwisko twórcy tej metody, Mikao Usui. Znak rei 霊 oznacza w języku japońskim „ducha” lub „duszę”, natomiast znak ki 気 jest pojęciem znacznie szerszym. Może oznaczać m.in.: „ducha”, „duszę”, „serce jako uczucie”, „umysł”, „nastrój”, „energię”. W słowie reiki jest odpowiednikiem chińskiego qi czyli energii życiowej przenikającej wszechświat. Istnienie energii duchowej reiki – podobnie jak istnienie innych form energii życiowej – nie zostało dotychczas potwierdzone przez obserwacje naukowe. Dlatego ta forma poprawy zdrowia należy do medycyny niekonwencjonalnej. Reiki nie jest religią i nie zastępuje jej, nie jest też filozofią. Jest energią i sztuką jej wykorzystania opartą na pięciu uniwersalnych zasadach przekazanych przez Mikao Usui.
