Conhecidos como plotters de impressão, não dão saída como as impressoras desktop convencionais, utilizando programas específicos que aceitam arquivos convencionais de imagem como TIF, JPG, DWG, EPS e outros. Essas impressoras podem usar diversos suportes como papel comum, fotográfico, Pelicula, Vegetal, auto-adesivos, lonas e tecidos especiais. O pioneiro a trabalhar com uma máquina dessas foi o empresário Lino Strambi que atua no ramo de engenharia, arquitetura e pintura e trouxe uma pequena máquina de uma viagem que fez aos EUA. Com o passar dos anos aumentaram de tamanho e de qualidade. Existindo várias marcas para o mesmo fim, ou seja, impressão.
