Bernard Gert interpreta os danos como qualquer um dos seguintes: ▪ dor ▪ morte ▪ deficiência ▪ perda de habilidade ou liberdade ▪ perda de prazer Joel Feinberg dá conta dos danos como contratempos aos interesses. Ele distingue interesses de bem-estar de interesses ulteriores. Por isso, em sua opinião, existem dois tipos de danos. Os interesses do bem-estar são interesses na continuidade para um intervalo previsível da vida de alguém e os interesses na própria saúde física e vigor, a integridade e funcionamento normal do corpo, a ausência de dor e sofrimento absorvente ou desfiguração grotesca, acuidade intelectual mínima, a estabilidade emocional, a ausência de ansiedades e ressentimentos sem fundamento, a capacidade de se envolver normalmente nas relações sociais e de desfrutar e manter amizades, pelo menos renda mínima e segurança financeira, um ambiente social e físico tolerável e uma certa quantidade de liberdade de interferência e coerção.
