Miragem
Uma miragem é um fenômeno óptico de ocorrência natural em que os raios de luz são dobrados para produzir uma imagem deslocada de objetos distantes ou o céu. A palavra chega ao inglês através da miragem francesa, do miratório latino, que significa "olhar, admirar". Esta é a mesma raiz que para "espelho" e "para admirar". Em contraste com uma alucinação, uma miragem é um verdadeiro fenômeno óptico que pode ser capturado na câmera, uma vez que os raios de luz são realmente refratados para formar a imagem falsa na localização do observador. O que a imagem parece representar, no entanto, é determinado pelas faculdades interpretativas da mente humana. Por exemplo, imagens inferiores em terra são muito facilmente confundidas com os reflexos de um pequeno corpo de água. Os mirages podem ser categorizados como "inferiores", "superiores" e "Fata Morgana", um tipo de miragem superior consistindo de uma série de imagens empalididas, amplamente elaboradas, que formam uma miragem em rápida mudança.
