Tipul este un termen american american de slang pentru un individ. Se aplică în mod obișnuit bărbaților, deși cuvântul poate cuprinde toate genurile. Tipul este un termen vechi, recunoscut de mai multe generații, deși potențial cu semnificații ușor diferite. Din anii 1870 până în anii 1960, dudea însemna în primul rând o persoană care se îmbrăca într-o manieră extrem de modă în față sau o persoană citită, care vizitează o localitate rurală, dar a rămas afară. În anii 1960, tipul a evoluat pentru a însemna orice persoană de sex masculin, un înțeles care a intrat în arta americană în anii 1970. Arcul actual păstrează cel puțin o utilizare a tuturor acestor trei sensuri comune.
