Erou
Un erou sau eroină se referă la personaje care, în fața pericolului și a adversității sau dintr-o poziție de slăbiciune, manifestă curaj și voință de sacrificiu de sine - adică eroism - pentru un bine mai bun al întregii omeniri. Această definiție se referea inițial la curajul sau excelența marțială, dar se extindea la o excelență morală mai generală. Povestirile despre eroism pot servi drept exemple morale. În antichitatea clasică, cultele care venerau eroi deificați precum Heracles, Perseus și Achilles au jucat un rol important în religia greacă veche. Politicienii, vechi și moderni, au angajat închinarea eroilor pentru apoteoza proprie. Povestirile anti-erou joacă, de asemenea, un rol major în mitologia greacă și o mare parte din literatură. Anti-eroul este un protagonist ale cărui calități sunt ultimul așteptat de la o persoană în anumite situații; un anti-erou adesea nu are caracteristicile tipice ale eroismului, cum ar fi onoarea, noblețea, curajul, compasiunea și forța.
