Hipocrisia este pretenția sau pretenția de a avea convingeri, sentimente, standarde, calități, opinii, comportamente, virtuți, motivații sau alte caracteristici pe care nu le dețineți în realitate. Este practica angajării în același comportament sau activitate pentru care cineva critică un altul. În psihologia morală, eșecul de a respecta propriile reguli și principii morale exprimate. Studiile recente din Psihologie au identificat bazele evolutive și mecanismele mentale ale ipocriziei, urmărindu-și rădăcinile la adaptările care servesc funcții contradictorii în creierul uman și la prejudecățile și distorsiunile cognitive care predispun oamenii să perceapă cu ușurință și să condamne greșelile altora, să perceapă și să condamne propriile greșeli.
