Inteligența a fost definită în mai multe moduri, cum ar fi capacitatea logicii, gândirea abstractă, înțelegerea, conștiința de sine, comunicarea, învățarea, cunoașterea emoțională, memoria, planificarea, creativitatea și rezolvarea problemelor. Inteligența este studiată cel mai mult la om, dar a fost observată și la animale și la plante. Inteligența artificială este simularea inteligenței în mașini. În cadrul disciplinei psihologiei, au fost adoptate diferite abordări ale inteligenței umane. Abordarea psihometrică este cunoscută în mod special publicului larg, fiind, de asemenea, cea mai cercetată și de departe cea mai răspândită în practică.
