CE ÎNSEAMNĂ PICTURESQUE ÎN ENGLEZĂ?

Imaginația este un ideal estetic introdus în dezbaterea culturală engleză în 1782 de William Gilpin în Observările pe râul Wye și în câteva părți din sudul Țării Galilor, etc. realizat în vara anului 1770, o carte practică care a instruit călătorii calificați ai Angliei să examineze "fața unei țări prin regulile frumuseții pitorești". Imaginile pitorești, împreună cu laturile estetice și culturale gotice și celtice, făceau parte din sensibilitatea romantică emergentă a secolului al XVIII-lea. O imagine a campaniei romane de la Tivoli, seara de Claude Lorrain, 1644-5 Termenul "pitoresc" trebuie inteles in relatie cu alte doua idealuri estetice: frumoasa si sublima. Până în ultima treime a secolului al XVIII-lea, ideile iluministe și raționaliste despre estetică au fost contestate prin faptul că au privit experiențele frumuseții și sublimității ca fiind non-raționale. Experientele estetice nu au fost doar o decizie rațională - una nu sa uitat la o formă curbată plăcută și a hotărât că este frumoasă -, mai degrabă a fost o chestiune de instinct uman de bază și a venit în mod natural.
Definiția picturesque în dicționarul Engleză
Prima definitie de pitoresc din dicționar este plăcută din punct de vedere vizual, mai ales dacă este frapantă sau viu. Alte definiții de pitoresc au un caracter izbitoare sau colorat, natură etc. Pictural este de asemenea grafic; vii.
