O politică este un stat sau una dintre autoritățile sale subordonate civile, cum ar fi provincia, prefectura, județul, municipiul, orașul sau raionul. În general, se înțelege o zonă geografică cu un guvern corespunzător. Thomas Hobbes a considerat organisme politice în acest sens în Leviathan. În secolele trecute, politica trupului a fost înțeleasă ca și "persoana fizică a suveranului: împărat, rege sau dictator în monarhii și despotism, și electoratul în republici. În prezent, se poate referi și la reprezentarea unui grup, cum ar fi cele trase pe linii etnice sau de gen. Cabinetele din democrațiile capitaliste sunt alese pentru a reprezenta corpul politic.
