Teoria propensității a probabilității este o interpretare a conceptului de probabilitate. Teoreticienii care adoptă această interpretare consideră că probabilitatea ca o propoziție fizică sau dispoziție sau tendința unui anumit tip de situație fizică de a obține un rezultat de un anumit tip sau de a da o frecvență relativă pe termen lung a unui astfel de rezultat. Înclinările nu sunt frecvențe relative, ci cauze presupuse ale frecvențelor relative stabile observate. Sunt invocate tendințe pentru a explica de ce repetarea unui anumit tip de experiment va genera un anumit tip de rezultat într-o rată persistentă. Un aspect central al acestei explicații este legea numărului mare.
