Nisip
Nisipul este un material granular natural, compus din particule minerale și rocă fin divizată. Compoziția nisipului este foarte variabilă, în funcție de sursele și condițiile locale de piatră, dar cea mai obișnuită componentă a nisipului în interiorul continentului interior și în zonele de coastă non-tropicale este silicea, de obicei sub formă de cuarț. Cel de-al doilea tip de nisip cel mai comun este carbonatul de calciu, de exemplu aragonitul, care a fost în cea mai mare parte creat, în ultimii jumătate de miliarde de ani, prin diferite forme de viață, cum ar fi corali și crustacee.
