From Medieval Latin scūtāgium, literally: shield dues, from Latin scūtum a shield.

Scutage
Forma de impozitare cunoscută sub numele de scuație, în legea Angliei, în cadrul sistemului feudal, a permis unui cavaler să "cumpere" serviciul militar datorită coroanei ca posesor al unei taxe de cavaler ținut sub mandatul de câmp feudal de cavaler- serviciu. Numele ei derivă din scut. Termenul se aplică, uneori, și în cazul altor taxe pecuniare, pe baza taxei cavalerului și a impozitelor percepute pentru război, dar nu în locul serviciului militar.
