De rasă pură
Purebredii, denumiți și păsări pure, sunt cultivate soiuri sau soiuri de specii de animale, obținute prin procesul de creștere selectivă. Când se înregistrează descendența unui animal de rasă pură, acel animal se spune că este pedigree. Termenul de rasă pură este ocazional confundat cu substantivul propriu-zis "Thoroughbred", care se referă exclusiv la o rasă specifică de cal, una dintre primele rase pentru care a fost creată o carte națională scrisă din secolul al XVIII-lea. Astfel, un animal de rasă pură nu trebuie niciodată să fie numit "rasă pură", cu excepția cazului în care animalul este, de fapt, un cal de cal.
