Tales z Miletu

Thales of Miletus (Thales ho Milesios, VII / VI) este un filosof grec (cărturar) al perioadei pre-Socratice, reprezentant al filosofiei ionice a naturii. Recunoscut pe scară largă ca primul filosof al civilizației occidentale și inițiator al studiului naturii ca știință. De asemenea, el aparține canonului celor șapte înțelepți. Talesa se percepe pe sine ca fiind primul filosof, în primul rând pentru că a inițiat explicația realității, referindu-se la natură și rațiune mai mult decât la mitologie și tradiție - dar grecii l-au văzut mai degrabă decât un filosof. A fost activ în Milet, centrul principal al culturii și economiei grecești în secolul al VI-lea î.Hr. Succesorii săi au fost Anaksymander și Anaksymenes. Acești filozofi sunt uneori numiți "școala lamelor", dar nu există dovezi că ei au format o "școală", iar legăturile personale dintre Tales și ceilalți filozofi ionici sunt necunoscute.

Tales z Miletu (gr. Θαλῆς ὁ Μιλήσιος Thales ho Milesios; VII/VI w. p.n.e.) – filozof (uczony) grecki okresu przedsokratejskiego, przedstawiciel jońskiej filozofii przyrody. Powszechnie uznawany za pierwszego filozofa cywilizacji zachodniej oraz za inicjatora badań nad przyrodą jako nauki. Należy też do kanonu siedmiu mędrców. Talesa postrzega się jako pierwszego filozofa głównie dlatego, że zainicjował wyjaśnianie rzeczywistości przez odwoływanie się do natury i rozumu bardziej niż do mitologii i tradycji – Grecy widzieli w nim jednak raczej mędrca, niż filozofa. Działał w Milecie, głównym ośrodku kultury i gospodarki Greków w VI w. p.n.e. Jego kontynuatorami byli Anaksymander i Anaksymenes. Filozofów tych określa się niekiedy łącznie terminem "szkoła milezyjska", nie ma jednak dowodów, że rzeczywiście tworzyli "szkołę", zaś personalne powiązania Talesa z pozostałymi filozofami jońskimi nie są znane.
