Joint

Juntura

In railroads, it is called junction or joint to the sector of union of rails or rails. It is the weak point of the track, especially from a dynamic point of view with the use of bolted clamp bolts. The passage of the wheel through the joint causes a collision, the negative effects of which are to increase the tensile strength, assist the longitudinal displacement of the rails, produce the crushing of the ballast and impose on the rail flexions and deformations that can become permanent, This being the reason for its replacement by the welding, which brings great advantages with the continuity of the track, and less maintenance, longer service life of both the track and the sleepers, less rolling resistance.
