Practical

Práctico

A pilot is a seaman who drives ships in dangerous or heavy traffic, such as ports, narrow canals, or rivers. However, the pilot is only an adviser, while legally the captain is still in command of the ship. Pilotage is one of the oldest and least known professions, although it is one of the most important in the safety of navigation. The economic, environmental and human life risks represented by today's large cargo ships make the pilot's role essential. In order to obtain the Practical title of a zone, one must have deep experience in the conduction and maneuver of large ships and also a complete knowledge of the specific region in which the task is performed. For this reason, in almost all countries of the world, in order to obtain this qualification, it is necessary to have the title of captain and to have practiced it for a certain time in vessels exceeding a certain tonnage.
