Definition of torpor in the Spanish dictionary

The definition of torpor in the dictionary is a physical state, usually transitory, characterized by the slowing down of reflexes, the diminution of sensitivity and dullness of the mind. Another meaning of torpor in the dictionary is also physiological state characterized by a large decrease in metabolic levels and body temperature, which can be daily, as in hummingbirds and bats, or seasonal, as in the hibernation of bears or the estivation of earthworms. La definición de torpor en el diccionario castellano es estado físico, generalmente transitorio, caracterizado por la lentificación de los reflejos, la disminución de la sensibilidad y el embotamiento de la mente. Otro significado de torpor en el diccionario es también estado fisiológico caracterizado por una gran disminución de los niveles metabólicos y de la temperatura corporal, que puede ser diario, como en los colibríes y los murciélagos, o bien estacional, como en la hibernación de los osos o la estivación de las lombrices.
