Il pacemaker è un software libero comune per la gestione delle risorse in cluster ad alta disponibilità di Linux. Gestisce il funzionamento dei servizi server su un cluster di computer per garantire la massima disponibilità, monitorare server e utilità. Viene distribuito come software libero anche nel testo di origine, in base alle quali si trovano librerie di programmi e file di intestazione sotto la licenza liberale GNU Lesser General Public e tutto sotto la licenza GNU General Public License. Per comunicare i nodi tra di loro, impostare su OpenAIS o il battito cardiaco obsoleto. Il pacemaker supporta il controllo dei dispositivi STONITH, che possono essere utilizzati per disattivare automaticamente i nodi in caso di disconnessione dal funzionamento del cluster. Il pacemaker era già parte del progetto Linux-HA; è il successore di Heartbeat riscritto nel 2008, suddiviso in un nuovo progetto. È stato sviluppato da sviluppatori SUSE, che è anche il primo fornitore di supporto tecnico commerciale per SUSE.
