Cf. adins. În general ieșit din uz cu forma sa primitivă,
îns se folosește astăzi mai ales cu una din cele patru forme următoare:

sec. XIX; fonetismul modern pare a se explica prin legături sintactice.

Munt. se aplică exclusiv persoanelor, și s-a ajuns chiar să se diferențieze de „el”, ca formulă de politețe proprie persoanei a treia:
mă duc cu el față de
mă duc cu dînsul „merg cu domnia sa”.
