O deleție, numită și deleție genetică, este o variantă a mutației genetice sau a mutației cromozomiale în genetică, în care lipsește o secvență de nucleotide sau o parte dintr-o secvență nucleotidică. O ștergere este întotdeauna o pierdere de material genetic. Numărul de baze nucleotidice șterse nu este stabilit, acesta poate varia de la o singură bază la întregul cromozom. Se face o distincție între ștergerea interstițială și terminală. Prima descrie o pierdere în interiorul cromozomului, cea din urmă o pierdere a unei porțiuni de sfârșit, adică o porțiune din regiunea telomerică.

(Genetica) pierderea unei erori medii de cromozom (lingvistică) a elementelor lingvistice în propoziție (de exemplu, eșantionul de omisiune pentru a determina valența (1) a verbelor).
