Bard
În cultura medievală gaelică și britanică, un bard era un poet profesionist, angajat de un patron, cum ar fi un monarh sau nobil, pentru a comemora strămoșii patronului și a lăuda activitățile propriei patroni. Inițial o clasă specifică de poet contrastează cu o altă clasă cunoscută sub numele de fili în Irlanda și Highland Scoția, termenul "bard", cu declinul tradiției bardice vii în perioada modernă, a dobândit sensuri generice ale unui autor / solist / narator epic, comparabilă cu termenii din alte culturi sau de alți poeți, în special cei celebri. De exemplu, William Shakespeare este cunoscut sub numele de Bard sau Bard of Avon.
