Decuparea retiniană este o tulburare a ochiului în care retina se îndepărtează de stratul substrat de țesut suport. Deblocarea inițială poate fi localizată sau largă, dar fără tratament rapid, întreaga retină se poate detașa, ceea ce duce la pierderea vederii și orbire. Este o urgență medicală. Este posibil să se deterioreze permanent, dacă detașarea nu este reparată în 24-72 de ore. Retina este un strat subțire de țesut sensibil la lumină pe peretele din spate al ochiului. Sistemul optic al ochiului focalizează lumina asupra retinei la fel ca lumina este focalizată pe film sau senzor într-o cameră. Retina traduce acea imagine concentrată în impulsuri neuronale și le trimite spre creier prin intermediul nervului optic. Ocazional, detașarea posterioară a vitreului, rănirea sau trauma la nivelul ochiului sau capului poate provoca o rupere mică în retină. Lacrimă permite fluidului vitros să se scurgă sub ea sub retină și să se îndepărteze ca un balon în tapet.
