Hegemonie
Hegemonia este o formă indirectă a guvernării și a dominației imperiale în care guvernele hegemonice subordonează geopolitic prin mijloacele implicite de putere, amenințarea cu forța, mai degrabă decât cu forța militară directă. În Grecia Antică, hegemonia a denotat dominanța politico-militară a unui oraș-stat față de alte orașe-state. În secolul al XIX-lea, hegemonia a denotat predominanța geopolitică și culturală a unei țări asupra altora; din care derivă hegemonismul, politica Marii Puteri menită să stabilească hegemonia europeană în Asia continentală și Africa. În secolul al XX-lea, Antonio Gramsci a dezvoltat filozofia și sociologia hegemoniei geopolitice în teoria hegemoniei culturale, prin care o clasă socială poate manipula sistemul valorilor și moreselor unei societăți, pentru a crea și a stabili o clasă dominantă Weltanschauung, o viziune asupra lumii care justifică statu-quo-ul dominației burgheze a celorlalte clase sociale ale societății.
