Mullah este, în general, folosit pentru a se referi la un bărbat sau o femeie musulmană, educată în teologie islamică și drept sacru. Titlul, dat clerului islamic, derivă din cuvântul arabil مولى mawlā, adică "vicar", "maestru" și "tutore". În multe părți ale lumii musulmane, în special în Iran, Azerbaijan, Afganistan, Arabia de Est, Turcia și Balcani, Asia Centrală, Cornul Africii și Asia de Sud, acesta este numele dat în mod obișnuit clericilor islamici sau liderilor moschei.
