În arhitectură, un soclu este baza sau platforma pe care se sprijină o coloană, un piedestal, o statuie, un monument sau o structură. Cel de-al patrulea element de arhitectură al lui Gottfried Semper prevedea că plintul, vatra, acoperișul și peretele constituie toată teoria arhitecturii. Plintul se odihnește de obicei direct pe pământ sau "stilobate". Potrivit lui Semper, plinta exista pentru a negocia intre o structura si pamant. Teoria lui Semper a influențat dezvoltarea arhitecturii. Multe case din zonele rurale predispuse la inundații din Bangladesh sunt construite pe plinte. Cuvântul este de asemenea utilizat pentru baza unui dulap sau a unei plăci grafice audio. În ingineria barajelor, "plinta" este legătura dintre sol și baraj. Pentru cazul barajelor arcade, termenul este schimbat în "pulvino".
