Un domeniu / rɛlm / este o comunitate sau teritoriu asupra căruia guvernează suveranul; este folosit în mod obișnuit pentru a descrie un regat sau alt stat monarhic sau dinastic. Vechiul cuvânt francez este, royume modern francez, cuvântul adoptat pentru prima dată în limba engleză; ortografia modernă fixă nu apare decât la începutul secolului al XVII-lea. Cuvântul se presupune că derivă din regalimenul latin medieval, de la regalis sau de la un rex. "Tărâmul" este folosit în mod special pentru acele state al căror nume include cuvântul Împărăție, pentru a evita repetarea clară a cuvântului într-o propoziție. De asemenea, este util să descriem acele țări ale căror monarhi sunt numiți altceva decât "regele" sau "regina"; de exemplu, Marele Ducat al Luxemburgului este un domeniu, dar nu un regat, deoarece monarhul său deține titlul de Mare Duce, mai degrabă decât Regele.
