O sectă este un subgrup al unui sistem de credință religioasă, politic sau filosofic, de obicei un excedent al unui grup religios mai mare. Deși în trecut a fost folosită în cea mai mare parte pentru a se referi la grupuri religioase, sa extins de atunci și în cultura modernă se poate referi la orice organizație care se îndepărtează de una mai mare pentru a urma un set diferit de reguli și principii.
