Lat. frῑgĕre (Pușcariu 648; Candrea-Dens., 642; REW 3510; DAR), cf. alb. fergoń (Philippide, II, 643), it. frigere, prov., fr. frire, cat. fregir, sp. freir, port. frigir. Der. frigare, s. f. (vergea de fier în care se înfige carnea spre a fi prăjită), cu suf. -are, ca vînzare, crezare (analogia cu grătar, pe care o propune DAR nu constituie o explicație suficientă; după Pușcariu 650, din lat. *frῑgalis; după Candrea-Dens., 643, de la un lat. *frῑgaria); frigăruie, s. f. (carne tăiată în bucăți mici și friptă la frigare); frigări, vb. (a înfige; refl. pop., a fi stăpînit de dorință); frigătoare, s. f. (frigare; Trans., plită de gătit); înfrigări, vb. (a înfige); friptoare, s. f. (Trans., Banat, arșiță, căldură excesivă), de la part. fript, cu suf. -oare; friptură, s. f. (carne friptă), cu suf. -ură, cf. băutură, căutătură, corcitură etc. (după Meyer-Lübke, Rom. FRÍGE vb. III. In gastronomy, how to prepare, especially meat and other foods, by direct exposure to caloric radiation, in various ways: in the frying = pieces of food or a whole animal are infected on a wooden or metal bar; at the proft = on a verge supported by two cranes; at the grill = on a grill above hot coals, on a gas flame or on an electric grill; some foods can be fried directly on the jar, and meat can be roasted in the oven, which is technically a baking. FRÍGE vb. III. În gastronomie, mod de a prepara, în special carne, dar și alte alimente, prin expunere directă la radiații calorice, în diverse feluri: la frigare = bucăți de alimente sau un animal întreg sunt infipte pe o vergea de lemn sau de metal; la proțap = pe o vergea sprijinită de două crăcane; la grătar = pe un grătar deasupra unor cărbuni încinși, la flacără de gaz sau pe un grătar electric; anumite alimente pot fi fripte direct pe jar, iar din carne se poate face friptură la cuptor, aceasta fiind din punct de vedere tehnic, de fapt, o coacere.
