La dénotation est une expression ambiguë de la sémantique. D'une part, il représente un sens neutre et donc pour le noyau de fond d'un mot. La contradiction est la connotation. La signification fondamentale superpose tout sens latéral subjectif, émotionnel et associatif. D'autre part, la dénotation est le terme dans le sens d'une référence extensionnelle. Le contraste est la référence intensive.
