Liburna ou Liburniana était un type de petite galère utilisée dans l'Antiquité et le haut moyen âge pour les patrouilles et les raids, en particulier par la marine romaine. Le nom est associé à l'origine du navire, qui a été inspiré par ceux utilisés par les pirates de Liburnia, une partie de Illyria, sur la mer Adriatique. C'était un navire léger, avec une rangée d'avirons, un mât avec une voile et un arc incliné. Sous l'arc avait un visage pour attaquer les navires ennemis sous l'eau. Dans sa forme originale, la liburna était semblable au penteconter et avait un banc avec 25 rameurs de chaque côté. À la fin de la République romaine, il était équipé de deux bancs de pagayeurs, mais il continuait à être plus rapide, agile et plus léger que les trirèmes. Le modèle liburna a été adopté par les Romains et est devenu une partie essentielle de la marine de la Rome antique, probablement à travers la marine macédonienne dans la seconde moitié du Ier siècle avant J.-C. Les liburnas ont joué un rôle clé dans la bataille d'Actium en Grèce. important pour l'établissement d'Auguste comme le leader incontesté du monde romain.

O modelo da liburna foi adotado pelos Romanos e tornou-se uma parte essencial da marinha da Roma Antiga, possivelmente por intermédio da marinha macedónia na segunda metade do século I a.C. As liburnas tiveram um papel fundamental na batalha de Áccio, na Grécia, que foi importante para o estabelecimento de Augusto como líder incontestado do mundo romano.
