Essas obras serviram principalmente a propósito de uma torre de vigia, para proteger certas estradas, passagens e terrenos prejudiciais ao reino. Embora menor do que uma fortaleza real, essas construções agiram como uma guarda de fronteira em vez de um ponto forte real para assistir e manter a fronteira.
