Expresivitatea este un termen folosit în genetică pentru a se referi la variațiile unui fenotip între indivizii care poartă un anumit genotip. Acesta este determinat de proporția persoanelor cu un anumit genotip care dețin și fenotipul asociat. Aceasta diferă de penetrare, care se referă la probabilitatea ca genele să genereze deloc fenotipul asociat. În schimb, expresivitatea se referă la influența unei gene exprimate la nivelul anumitor indivizi. Prin urmare, expresivitatea poate fi utilizată pentru a caracteriza calitativ sau cantitativ amploarea variației fenotipice în cadrul unui anumit genotip. Termenul este similar cu severitatea unei afecțiuni din medicina clinică. De exemplu, volumul de sânge evacuat din inima pompării cu fiecare contracție, raportat la cantitatea totală de sânge din camera inimii, poate fi cuantificat prin ecocardiografie și se numește fracția de ejecție. Dacă un genotip specific este asociat cu dezvoltarea insuficienței cardiace congestive, expresivitatea ar fi reprezentată de gama de fracțiuni de ejecție observată la pacienții care au acel genotip.
