Holocaustul
Holocaustul, cunoscut și sub numele de Shoah, a fost un genocid în care aproximativ șase milioane de evrei au fost uciși de armata germană, sub comanda lui Adolf Hitler și colaboratorii săi. Killings a avut loc în întreaga regiune germană și teritoriile ocupate de germani. Între anii 1941 și 1945 au fost vizați și metodic uciși evrei, țigani, slavii, comuniștii, homosexualii, persoanele cu handicap mental și fizic și membrii altor grupuri în cel mai mare genocid al secolului XX. În total, aproximativ 11 milioane de persoane au fost ucise în timpul Holocaustului, inclusiv peste 1 milion de copii. Din cei nouă milioane de evrei care au locuit în Europa înainte de Holocaust, aproximativ două treimi au fost uciși. O rețea de aproximativ 42.500 de spații în Germania și în teritoriile ocupate de Germania au fost utilizate pentru concentrarea, limitarea și uciderea evreilor și a altor victime și între 100.000 și 500.000 de persoane au fost participanți direcți la planificarea și uciderea victimelor Holocaustului. Persecuțiile și genocidul au fost efectuate în etape. Inițial, guvernul german a adoptat legi care să excludă evreii din societatea civilă, mai ales legile din Nuremberg din 1935.
