Infinitatea este un concept abstract care descrie ceva fără limită și este relevant într-o serie de domenii, predominant matematică și fizică. Cuvântul englezesc infinit derivă din infinitasul latin, adică "fără sfârșit", și care poate fi tradus ca "neîngrădit", el însuși calificat din cuvântul grecesc apeiros, adică "fără sfârșit". În matematică, "infinitul" este adesea tratat ca și cum ar fi un număr, dar nu este același număr de număr ca și numărul real. În sistemele numerice care încorporează infinitezimale, reciprocitatea unui infinitezimal este un număr infinit, adică un număr mai mare decât orice număr real. Georg Cantor a formalizat numeroase idei legate de infinit și seturi infinite în timpul sfârșitului secolului XIX și începutul secolului al XX-lea. În teoria pe care a dezvoltat-o, există seturi infinite de dimensiuni diferite.
