Un nerv este un pachet de axoni închis, în formă de cablu, în sistemul nervos periferic. Axoanele sunt grupate împreună în grupuri numite fascicule și fiecare fascicul este înfășurat într-un strat de țesut conjunctiv numit perineurium. În final, întregul nerv este învelit într-un strat de țesut conjunctiv numit epineurium.
